Hello World: Welcome to My Blog

personal intro

Welcome to my blog! I’m Martijn Scholten, a Platform Engineer based in the Netherlands. After years of working in the field, I’ve decided to start sharing my experiences, insights, and lessons learned.

What to Expect

This blog will cover topics that I’m passionate about and work with daily:

  • Kubernetes & OpenShift: From basic concepts to advanced patterns and troubleshooting
  • Platform Engineering: Building internal developer platforms that actually help developers
  • DevOps Practices: CI/CD, GitOps, and automation strategies
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Primarily AWS, but also multi-cloud considerations
  • Homelab Adventures: Running k3s at home and self-hosting experiments

Why Start a Blog?

I’ve consumed countless blog posts, tutorials, and documentation throughout my career. It’s time to give back to the community. Writing also helps me solidify my own understanding - there’s nothing like trying to explain a concept to really test whether you understand it.

A Bit About Me

I am a Freelance Engineer focused on Platform Engineering. I’ve had the opportunity to work with organizations like the Royal Schiphol Group, LEGO Group, and Nordcloud/IBM. Each engagement has taught me something new about building and maintaining infrastructure at scale.

Outside of work, I train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and lift the occasional weights. I find that the problem-solving mindset in BJJ translates surprisingly well to debugging complex distributed systems.

Let’s Connect

I’m always happy to discuss platform engineering, share experiences, or just chat about tech. You can find me on GitHub and LinkedIn.
